Davis Instruments WeatherLink Network Achieves Major Milestone
December 15, 2009
HAYWARD, California USA—Davis Instruments today announced that its online weather community, the WeatherLink Network, has reached a major milestone with more than 2,000 members throughout the world on every continent except for Antarctica. The WeatherLink Network is a community of Davis Instruments' weather enthusiasts who use the website to view their own weather data and to share that weather data with friends and people across the world quickly and easily.
The site displays each Davis weather station's data, its position on a global map, and a link to the owner's site. To become part of the WeatherLink Network, Davis station owners simply use Davis' WeatherLinkIP™ and a Davis Vantage station or Davis' Weather Envoy to upload their weather data directly to the Internet without a PC.
WeatherLinkIP, includes all the features of Davis Instruments' WeatherLink software, plus website creation, upkeep, and hosting. Users don't have to design their own web page or secure a domain name. There are no set-up or hosting fees. With WeatherLinkIP, members plug the data logger into a Vantage Vue or Vantage Pro2 console, or Weather Envoy and into their router/hub for immediate data upload. WeatherLinkIP sells for $295.
With WeatherLinkIP, updates and alarm notices can be easily sent to an e-mail address or cell phone. The newest innovation is an iPhone application enabling you to add any station's information from the WeatherLink Network global map.
"Together, the WeatherLink Network and WeatherLinkIP data logger make an ideal home weather combo and complete the circle for weather station users who want to record, share and track data," said Russ Heilig, Vice President of Business Development, Davis Instruments. "They can upload their weather variables to share with the world as well as access data from wherever they are, whether they are using a home or office computer, laptop, cell phone, or iPhone. Following the weather has never been easier or more fun."
Helen Kohl, of Twain Harte, California, recently became a WeatherLink Network member and has this to say about it. "With WeatherLinkIP I feel like a part of a community. I can look at the weather of people who are near me or I can see other people's weather on the other side of the world. Near or far, all are interesting," she said.
The WeatherLink Network continues to evolve with new features as community members share their input. Besides the Internet-enabled model, WeatherLinkIP, Davis Instruments also makes WeatherLink models that work with a PC or a Mac and versions that can be used for more specialized applications such as irrigation control, ham radio operators (APRS) and emergency response teams.
